Our team is looking forward to volunteering at Makes Cents 2019, a financial literacy event geared towards high school students. This is the first year that the event is being organized by Mission C, Birgo Realty’s non-profit partner. In past years, Makes Cents was organized by the Global Shapers community hub in Pittsburgh.
Makes Cents is a one-day event for high schools to learn about what financial literacy is, and the options they have in their own lives. The Makes Cents team connects the students with local entrepreneurs, non-profits, and other organizations in the finance sphere; the day’s focus is on the principles of getting money (income generation), spending money (credit and loans), saving money, and growing money (investing).
Makes Cents 2018 hosted over 200 students from schools across Pittsburgh at the University of Pittsburgh School of Business. Students were able to hear from a variety of speakers, like former Pittsburgh Steeler and Founder of the Will Allen Foundation, Mr. Will Allen, and artist and entrepreneur, Njaimeh Njie.
