Pittsburgh real estate would provide Amazon an affordable housing market for their new headquarters and growing tech sector of business and innovation.
It was recently announced that Amazon chose Pittsburgh to be in the top 20 possible cities for the location of their second headquarters. Over 200 cities were in the running, and other notable cities in the list include Boston, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Austin, and Denver, among others. Trulia released a study examining the housing affordability of each city and determined that Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Columbus would be the best options.
Here’s why we believe Pittsburgh as a city and Pittsburgh real estate, in particular, would exceed Amazon’s needs.
Affordable Market
Amazon would be moving into the city, and with them, drive thousands of employees to live and work in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh real estate is adaptable and affordable across the market, from apartment rent rates to investing opportunities. If Amazon chose to make Pittsburgh the home of their HQ2, tens of thousands of employees would find the city to be low in cost of living and high in quality of life. The Pittsburgh real estate market has withstood recessions and changes in industry demand. Not only would the city’s infrastructure be able to not only support a growth in commerce but also thrive as a result. The market and its citizens are adaptable, and welcoming of growth.
Tech talent
Growth across industries lends itself to a city-wide development. Pittsburgh is known for the caliber of students who graduate every year from Carnegie Mellon and Upitt, among others. Nearby is the University of Pennsylvania, and many young people would be eager to move to a growing, affordable city like Pittsburgh in order to work for Amazon. The tech giant would be able to assert themselves as a leader in the area and economy.
Culture of Tenacity
Amazon’s culture would fit and amplify the natural determination of Pittsburgh culture. The no-nonsense Midwestern work ethic would be well suited for Amazon’s commitment to innovation and reinvention. Pittsburgh, a city reinventing itself and growing before our eyes, is the perfect setting for Amazon’s expanse across the country. A city once known for its steel is making strides in the industries of medicine, information sciences, finance, and tech, would naturally expand.
We have the real estate, the talent, and the culture.
